Love me, Hate me
Often, I have friends asking me why I don’t post ‘the pretty pics’ on facebook. I can answer them in a very complicated single sentence- I’m not going to doll up for you to like me because of my looks. (Somehow even I am not sure if the sentence is correct).
The world is getting global, smaller and more and more tech savvy. By some means, this has become a reason for people to engage into an e-war of ‘mine is bigger than yours’. I heard this somewhere- “the desire to look pretty is not a bad thing.” – I agree. But why do we need a constant approval from people that we are looking good (or are having more fun in overseas somewhere). I know people who change their display pictures every 5 days. For them, their lives hang on a very delicate balance of the number of ‘likes’ they receive. And the process of getting the PERFECT DP is just agonizing. So many angles, faces, expressions, poses and REJECTS! When no one can click what you want, there is always the ‘selfies’.

Somewhere while ‘civilizing’, we have forgotten the golden truth- ‘beauty is only skin deep’. Well, no wonder the cosmetic companies are earning so much. This is the 21st century and suddenly everyone wants to be fairer!! The height of it- fairness cream for men. When I saw the ad, I thought to myself, “OK, now I have seen everything.” (Whatever happened to tall, dark, handsome?). Come to think of it, I am amazed no one has sued them for being racist yet. What is wrong with dusky skin? What is wrong with a few freckles? What is wrong with wrinkles?
I have a different take on appearances. If you don’t have a tan, you haven’t been out of your cozy homes or AC offices much. If you don’t have freckles and pimples, you don’t experiment with food or haven’t been in polluted cities. If you don’t have grey hairs, you have no experience! In either case, not the kind of person I’d be interested in. Also, if you're good looking, it's a gift; not a privilege.
Embrace yourselves! I believe in Crazy than Pretty. I go on days without combing my hair (literally), and I still have friends and family around me. I am not saying this is something to be proud of but there are people who know and like the inner you. And these people, I know, will be by my side if I look horrible or don’t go on a euro trip (not saying that I don't want to :D).
